Dr. C

After 33 years of dedication to the students, teachers, and staff of St. James Parish Schools, Dr. P. Edward Cancienne has his sights set on a well-deserved retirement; where he plans to spend more time with his wife and their family.

Dr. Cancienne, affectionately known as Dr. C, began his career as a teacher in Assumption Parish in 1973.  He would later be named Superintendent of Schools in Assumption Parish in June of 1989, where he spent ten of years of his career.  In 1999, Dr. C accepted the position as Superintendent of Schools in St. James Parish; where he spent the next eighteen years revamping and rebuilding the district into a more modernized school district.

During his first tenure as Superintendent, Dr. Cancienne, along with school board members, opened the St. James Parish Science and Math Academy (SMA).  The SMA was an academic hub for hands-on learning in the math & science field.  It brought a sense of harmony to both sides of the river (St. James High & Lutcher High).

After taking a position in Iberville Parish (2007-2016), things came full circle when Dr. Cancienne accepted the school board offer to join our team once again.  In July 2016, Dr. C was re-hired in St. James Parish School System; where he completed his career in February.

On behalf of the teachers, staff, and students of the St. James Parish School System we would like to thank Dr. Patrick Edward Cancienne for all his hard work and dedication to us all.  We wish you the very best in this next chapter of your life.
