Child Search Notice and Screening Schedule

The St. James Parish School District identifies, locates, and evaluates all children, birth through 21 years of age, suspected of having a disability and needing special education and/or related services within its jurisdiction.

If a parent or family member is concerned about a child’s development, they may contact the Parish Child Search Coordinator to schedule a developmental screening.  If the child is between birth-3 years old, a referral will be made to Early Steps.  The St. James Parish will screen children aged 2 years, nine months old through school-age (5 years old).   These procedures are outlined below.

If you would like to schedule a preschool screening, please contact the Parish Child Search Office at 225.258.4523. 

Screening (not attending a Parish preschool program)

1. Parents of the concerned party contact the Parish Child Search Coordinator to schedule a developmental screening.
2. The child is placed on the following available scheduled screening dates.
3. The child Search office sends out paperwork to be completed by the parent before the screening date and meeting notice.
4. Five days before the scheduled screening, an email, text, or phone reminder is made to ensure that the parent remembers and has completed the necessary paperwork.
