Welcome to the St. James Parish Public School System Student Services Department. We are honored to serve our students, families, educators, and community stakeholders as we support the district's vision of ensuring every student is prepared for a professional career, college degree, or service. Our department is committed to removing barriers to learning and providing equitable access to the academic, social, emotional, behavioral, and support services students need to succeed.

Through counseling and mental health services, attendance and truancy prevention, behavioral interventions, restorative practices, family engagement, and community partnerships, we work to create safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environments where every student feels valued, connected, and empowered to reach their full potential. We believe that student success extends beyond academics and requires a comprehensive approach that addresses the needs of the whole child.

Regular attendance, social-emotional wellness, and positive behavioral development are essential to student achievement and future readiness. By partnering with families, educators, and community organizations, we foster a culture of engagement, belonging, accountability, and resilience. Together, we are creating pathways to opportunity and building brighter futures for every student in St. James Parish.

The Department of Student Services, Child Welfare and Attendance mission, vision and goals are directly aligned to our St. James Parish Public School System’s Strategic Plan.

Mission Statement

The mission of the St. James Parish Public School System Student Services Department is to provide equitable, comprehensive, and student-centered services that remove barriers to learning, support academic and personal success, promote social-emotional wellness, strengthen positive behavior, and cultivate meaningful partnerships that prepare every student for college, career, or service.

Vision Statement

The Student Services Department envisions a school system where every student is engaged, supported, and empowered through inclusive practices, high-quality learning environments, strong community partnerships, and comprehensive support systems that ensure readiness for future success.

Priority 1: Ensure every student is on track to a professional career, college degree, or service.

Goal 1: Improve Attendance and Student Engagement-Implement proactive attendance initiatives and student engagement strategies that maximize instructional time, increase school connectedness, and support student achievement and future readiness.

Priority 2: Remove barriers and create inclusive learning experiences for all students.

Goal 2: Support Social-Emotional Wellness-Implement evidence-based social-emotional learning practices and mental wellness supports that strengthen resilience, self-awareness, positive relationships, and student well-being.
Goal 3: Strengthen Behavioral Supports and School Climate-Develop and sustain proactive, restorative, and student-centered behavioral systems that promote safe, respectful, and productive learning environments for all students.

Priority 3: Provide the highest quality teaching and learning environment.

Goal 4: Foster Safe, Supportive, and Reflective Learning Environments-Collaborate with schools to establish conditions that support student engagement, emotional safety, positive behavior, and academic success while ensuring all students are prepared to learn.

Priority 4: Recruit, hire, and retain a highly effective educator workforce.

Goal 5: Support Educator Capacity and Student Services Collaboration-Partner with school leaders and staff to provide training, resources, consultation, and support that strengthen educators' ability to meet the academic, social-emotional, behavioral, and attendance needs of students.

Priority 5: Cultivate and develop high-impact partnerships.

Goal 6: Strengthen Family and Community Partnerships- Build and sustain collaborative relationships with families, businesses, community organizations, and service agencies to provide comprehensive supports that enhance student success and well-being.
